Neck Roll (Follow)

BachataIntermediatesensual-bodyworkSensual

A slow circle of the head that finishes a phrase. The styling that makes a wave land — small, controlled, and pure expression. The last thing to learn, the first thing people notice.

Also known as: head roll (smaller/controlled — distinct from the full Advanced Head Roll B036)

This move builds: Consent & Floor Etiquette …on the always-on five — Connection, Frame, Comfort, Posture, Consent.

What This Move Is

A controlled roll of the head and neck — usually the follow's, as the tail end of a wave or body roll — tracing a smooth half or quarter circle. At this level it's contained and precise, the punctuation mark on a sensual phrase rather than the full expressive drop of the advanced version.

Key Points

  • Follow: Lead it from the neck, slow and soft, keeping the rest of the frame quiet. Let it finish a movement — it answers the wave, it doesn't start one.
  • Lead: Make space and stay still so the follow can express it; this is her moment, not a led move.
  • Timing: Roll over a slow 2-3 counts, landing on a held note.
  • Common mistake: Snapping the head or rolling so far it loses control. Keep it small and smooth — controlled is what makes it I2, not the size of the motion.

Style Notes

The controlled, contained version of the styling that becomes the full Advanced Head Roll (B036). Builds on the Body Wave (B032). Use it sparingly, on a lyrical held moment — overused it becomes a tic, placed well it's the signature of a mature sensual dancer.
